Everyone loves free. It's been on the blogs that Arby's is having a great deal on Wednesdays. They are offering an assortment of free food when you make a purchase on Wednesdays. For example this Wednesday if you purchase a soft drink you get a free Roast Beef Sandwich. Sounds like I might be eating out for lunch this Wednesday. Just click here for the complete schedule.

Free Chocolate...

My friend Dara first gave me the heads up on this and then I found a blog willing to explain it. Mars is giving away coupons every Friday until September for a free candy bar. Just click here for complete details.

Organizing your Coupons...

How do you organize your coupons? After attending a Grocery Guru class I started out with his method. Which is this:

You take a binder, filing folder system, accordion file folder, something you can file your coupons in. Then you take each file tab and label it with the date. Or if you want to use a a binder, take a piece of paper and attach it like a tab and put the date on it. Then when someone tells you of a coupon you can flip to that date and clip it. I would recommend this method to someone who is not a huge coupon user. It is a lot less time than either of the methods below where you clip every coupon.

After clipping coupons for a year I was ready to advance to a more thorough system. I found I was thinking to myself all the time, I wonder if I have a coupon for that at home. I found a video on PYP blog that showed how they organize their coupons. If you click here there is a video showing you how to do it.

Utah Deal Diva posted on her website how she files her coupons just click here to see how she does it.

Look it over. I am sure you will find a system that will work for you.

Albertson's and Double Coupons

I never understood what the big deal was about double coupons until I really started using coupons and having someone guide me through the double coupon process. In our grocery ad this week there are three double coupons. So what? A Thrifty Mom has put together some great ideas with those coupons.

I know there are only three coupons but if you plan it right you are basically getting three items free or almost free. Click here for double coupon ideas and she has listed the best of the best on their sale items this week.

Together the double coupons and the deals make it worth my time to go there. And most of the time Albertson's has stocked up on the sale items. I must say I was not much of an Albertson's shopper until I started using coupons.

Smith's Deals this week 5/20-5/26

Rather than re-type everything Shopping with Cents has put together a simple to understand list if you want to get the most out of your money just click here for Smith's best deals this week.

Crystal Light...

Here's a great deal Kristy told me about. Walmart marked down their Crystal Light single pack boxes to 1.97 normally about 2.58. If you print $1 off coupon from here or here you can get them for .97. Love Crystal Light with the hot weather!

Internet Coupons- West Jordan Macey's Update

Last week I saw in Macey's ad an advertisement for Kraft's big promo they are having with their online printable coupons. I was a little miffed because in the past I have tried to use online coupons and have been told I can't use them.

I spoke to someone who works at the West Jordan Macey's and she said Macey's is trying out the online coupons with Kraft. They will accept the Kraft printable coupons if they have the little almost not noticable yellow dots up where the expiration date is. This guarantees that the coupon is not photo copied. She said Macey's lost thousands of dollars because people were photo copying the coupons and then the manufacturer wouldn't pay the store for the coupon.

So as of now you can use any internet Kraft coupon if it has the little yellow dots. You also can use any internet Western Family coupon. And third you can use any Grocery Guru printable coupons from his website. As long as they have those little yellow dots. If you have any problems just have the cashier check with their manager.

This is really good news because this week they are having several Kraft items on sale. BBQ sauce, salad dressing, Jello, mayo just look at

NPS

NPS heard of it? It's a big store located by the distribution center that sells food that is close to expiring or has dents or packaging damage but is still suitable to eat. They also sell clearance or discontinued items from stores. I talked with Kristy Ashby who shops there and she finds great deals. I asked her for ideas of how to get the best deals there and here are her tips.
  1. The store opens at 10:00 am Mon-Sat and Kristy highly recommends you get there first thing to get the best deals. Also she never goes on Saturday because it is a madhouse.
  2. Shop the clearance section first.
  3. When you shop for food there you should plan on eating it within two weeks.
  4. When shopping food Kristy thinks the best deals are on
  • chips
  • bread (make sure you check for mold. The bread is close to expiration so sometimes the bread is moldy) you can get bread for .99-1.29 per loaf and it freezes well
  • cereal
  • candy bars
  • tortillas
The address is 1600 Empire Rd. To see directions click here

Target Deals

Okay everyone I tried some of It's Hip to Save's ideas for deals with a little twist and this is what I came up with that I know work:

Nabisco 100 Calorie Pack Snacks are marked down to 2.04 at Target. I used $1.00 of coupon from Kraft foods click here or here to print off the coupon then add the Target coupon for an additional $1.00 of Target coupons Final cost .04 each! On the coupon it says one coupon per transaction. I tried it at the Target in Jordan Landing and they let me buy 4 boxes in one transaction. I also went to the Target on 7200 South and Redwood and they stuck to the coupon wordage but I had her ring me up 4 seperate times.

Kraft Mayo (18 oz) Same idea. They are marked down to 1.99 Print off the $1.00 off coupon from the websites above and their is a Target coupon $1.00/off 2 making them .49 a jar. The Jordan Landing Target had the mayo marked down to 1.99 but at the 7200 South Target they were 2.79. Jordan Landing Target let me buy 4 jars in one transaction. I didn't buy Mayo at the other Target because they cost more.

Baby Steps...The List

I am no expert but I just felt like I should share a little shopping advice I have learned.
  1. Make a list- I spend so much more money at the store if I don't have a list. Impulse buying ruins your budget. In fact I budget a little so I can impulse buy. I will plan on "fudging" $5 or $10 so I don't go over budget. You have to make your budget work for you.
  2. Add it up. Before I go to the store I will pencil in next to the items what I will be spending on those and then add it up. If I add something to my basket that wasn't on the list I will write it down. So when I get to the counter I have a good idea what my total will be.
  3. Check your receipt. I will look it over to make sure everything adds up correctly. Maybe an item didn't ring up the right price. Maybe the checker rung you up twice for the same item. I have caught many mistakes that either I or the store have made and saved myself money. Also I have been given a couple coupons on my receipt I would have missed if I didn't look it over.
  4. Don't be afraid or embarrassed. This is a big one for me. When I have goofed up I have returned items rather than just taking a loss. If you don't ask you won't know the answer. There is no dumb question.
  5. Be courteous. If checkers get nasty couponers then we will get a bad reputation. But if we are workable and considerate then they will treat us the same way. Yes there are just some bad apples but I have found most of the time the cashier is friendly if I am friendly and courteous.
Hope this helps you as you shop this week!

Albertson's Deals 5/13-5/19

Hi Everyone,

I am listing just what I think is the best deals out of Albertson's ad coming out tomorrow. You can see a full list at PYP forum tonight at this link or tomorrow log on to grocerysmarts.com and use password g84rcm to create a list. Also Thrifty Mom always puts a list together that is precise and easy to read go here to see her suggested list. I am just listing what I think is the best ideas. Good luck! Also make sure you try to print your coupons asap. Sometimes there is a limit and the links won't work once the limit has been reached.

In store coupons (I clip these and put them with my other coupons so I don't forget the coupon). Also I did not list quantities of how many you can get per item. There is a limit. So make sure you look at your ad.

Philadelphia cream cheese .88 cents
  • use $1.00 off coupon fromhere , or $1 off 2 here
  • Final price free or 33 cents

Albertson's Shredded or chunk cheese 6-8 oz. .88 cents

Albertson's cereal .88 select varieties

General Mills promo spend $10.00 get $4 off instantly Mix and Match over 250 items.
Sometimes it can get confusing but just to clarify how the discounts work. You add up the price of the items before you take the $4.00 off to figure your total. Example: Suddenly salad is on sale for $1.25 a box. So if you bought 8 boxes that would total $10. Then the register takes off $4.00 making them .75 cents each and then you deduct your coupons. So if you had enough coupons you would walk away with 8 boxes of Suddenly Salad for only $2.80. I hope that makes sense.

Betty Crocker Suddenly Salad $1.25 (only .75 cents after instant $4.00 off)

  • use .40 cents off coupon from here
  • final price .35 cents each

Betty Crocker Frosting $1.67 ( only $1.00 after instant $4.00 off)
  • use .50 cent coupon from 4/5 smart source or I found a printable coupon here for .55 off making it .45 a tub. You can print the coupon twice.
  • final price .45 to .50 cents

I bought all these items one week for about 30.00. Steve and I have such a tight budget I thought food storage was something we could not afford to do. But I feel this is part of our food storage. This is my short term food storage I still work on the long term stuff but together it feeds my family.

My Smith's Deals

Total Cost: 21.49

I bought
13 boxes of cereal for .88 each.
2 gallons of milk for 1.69 each
3 cottage cheese 1.00 each
1 sour cream 1.00
1 pkg. popsicles 1.00
10 pkg. Kool-Aid .10 each
1 pkg. Oreo's 3.19

The cereal is on sale for 1.88 each (no limit) I went here and was able to print a bunch of 1.00 off coupons. Hurry before they are gone. There is also 1.50 off coupon in Sunday 4/5 RedPlum coupon insert making them even cheaper. However I had already used mine but the online coupons made them a bargain.

The Oreo's were a splurge item and not on sale. But I included it because it was part of my cost. Sometimes I give in to little cravings which takes away from my total savings. But hey, great deals! Also I used all online coupons. I didn't have to buy 10 papers to get this kind of savings.

Albertson's Best Deals

These are what I found to be the best deals. I just condensed the list to what I think is the best deals. Pinching your Pennies has a complete list of all their sale items. At the bottom of this post is a link to PYP list. Thrifty mom has made a great over-view list that is easy to read. Just click here . I love her blog but a few of her deals only work in Idaho. I double checked what she listed and they all work in Utah too.

Braeburn apples 5# bag only 2.99 (store coupon)
Iceberg lettuce .99 a head
Whole frying chicken .77 lb (Fri-Sun only)
Chunk cheese 32 oz. 3.99 (store coupon)
Large dozen eggs .99
Following meat are all 1.99 per pound.
(Some of those cuts I have never tried so I can't say if they are worth the price but it sounds good.)
  • Fresh Beef Sirloin Tip Rotisserie
  • Fresh Bulk Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast
  • Fresh Beef 7 bone chuck roast
  • Fresh Bone-In Pork Assorted Chops
Fuze beverage 1.00 plus B1G1free making it .50 each when you buy two
Nabisco family size Wheat Thins/Triscuits 1.99 use SmartSource coupon 3/15 $1/2 making it 1.49 each
Ritz crackers 1.88 follow this link here and get $1/2 making them 1.38 each if you get two.
Suave Naturals Shampoo/Conditioner use RedPlum 3/1 coupon and pay .42 to .50 each

There are some great Kraft/Clorox and Health Promo's going on. It would be hard for me to list them all and luckily the PYP crew has already done that hard stuff. Thanks PYP just go to PYP list here and anything with a 4 or 5 star rating is great.

Garden Manure

Every year Steve and I work on our garden. However it has to be cost efficient. My sister found this info on free manure. Just an FYI if you are planning on a garden this year and don't have much money to put into it.

Free Fertilizer Offer from BLM Horse Center

Contact: BLM Salt Lake Regional Horse Center, 801-561-4632

The Salt Lake Regional Horse Center managed by the BLM is offering free wild horse manure to the public, nurseries, parks or neighborhood gardens. It's Free! They just ask you call ahead to make sure someone is there to load it into your truck.

Horse manure, when composted, contains valuable fertilizer elements like carbon and nitrogen. Some manure stockpiles have been sitting for over a year, shrunken from decomposition and moisture loss. Wild horses and burros managed at the center are fed certified weed free hay. *You still will get weeds. My mom used it and the manure was not weed free. Maybe it cuts down on the amount of weeds but there are still weeds.**

The Salt Lake Regional Horse Center is located at 8605 West Butterfield Canyon Road (126000 South) Herriman, Utah, the horse center is open to the public Monday-Friday 9:00am-3:00pm. Staff will assist in loading manure.

For more information contact the BLM Wild Horse and Burro Center, 801-561-4632.

Carino's

I was so excited when I saw this deal on a blog but unfortunately it is not being offered in Utah. However I went to their website and signed up for their club and 24 hours later I received two deals.

The first was a free dessert with my meal. They were giving me a late birthday present since my birthday was last month. The second was a welcome to the family coupon. I can get 1/2 off one entree. Sweet! So even though we can't get the deal listed below it led me to a different deal.
Carino's- Moms eat FREE!

This week moms get a FREE three course meal with the purchase of an entree. Check Carino's for more details.

Upcoming Coupons

Hi Ladies,

Tomorrow's paper will have three inserts. Utah Diva deal found these awesome coupon deals. Just a tip I would wait until the new grocery ads have come out. Often times Albertson's or Smith's has a sale to go with the coupons in weeks to follow.

BOGO Ziplock bags, up to $2.19
BOGO Mr.Clean Magic Eraser
BOGO Mr.Clean liquid cleanser, up to $2.99
$2/1 Chinet Lunch plates
$2/1 Excedrin
$2/1 Lysol Disinfectant spray
$1.50/1 Sure Deodorant for Men
$4/1 Always Infinity pads
BOGO Gillette Shampoo, up to $2.49

I always 3-hole punch my coupons and put them in a big binder. Then I look through them and clip any coupons I may need and carry them with me in a little coupon book. Example: I had some free gum coupons or B1G1free gum. I wouldn't have known they were there if I didn't thumb through the coupons.

Usually I am very detailed about my shopping but I have had a hectic week. I just skimmed the deals and am listing what I think is the best deals. I just pulled up grocerysmarts.com and used password g84rcm and could look at any of the stores deals. I know some of you are still in the learning curve so I condensed it a little. There was no super duper deal I liked this weeks so those are just my favorite picks.

But please look at my favorite websites/blogs. There are tons of deals. It can be overwhelming so I would just try one thing you really want to do. If you start slow it makes it easier.
