Decoder

As you use GrocerySmarts lists the coupon lingo can be a bit confusing at first. Here is a list to help you "decode" the coupon location lingo.

** Example: .50/2 (2-28-10) RP-1/31

.50/2
  • How Much/How Many:
  • I will save .50/ when I buy 2
(2-28-10)
  • The date the coupon expires
RP: Coupon Location:
  • SS- SmartSource - comes in the Sunday newspaper
  • RP- RedPlum - comes with weekly ads in mail (in Salt Lake area)
  • P&G- Proctor & Gamble- comes monthly in Sunday papers
  • GM - General Mills- an additional insert that sometimes comes in the Sunday papers in the Salt Lake area
  • Online Coupons- GrocerySmarts will have a link to click on and follow to get coupon.  Here are a couple of pointers to understand online coupon wording:
    1. When you click on a link often it will take you to a page with several other coupons.  You will usually have to click through the pages of coupons until you find the one you are looking for
    2. Understanding "active" or coupon "disappeared".  Read more about it here.  Make sure you look at the right hand side of  the page it will help you with the system.
1/31:  The Sunday newspaper that the coupon insert came in

Other Lingo you see in the Coupon Location

    • Item Description: When listing a coupon GrocerySmarts will list the details of that coupon.  If there is a certain flavor or variety you need to buy to use that coupon GrocerySmarts will list it so you don't buy the wrong item.
    • Extra Promo:  A store will have an additional promotion to their sale price.  Often times there are certain rules such as buy so many, get so many free.  For example the store may offer a free orange juice if you buy a dozen eggs.  GrocerySmarts will list the promo but you can always check your grocery ad for complete details.
    • DND- Do not Double - would be important if we had grocery stores doubling coupons but we rarely do.  So I just ignore the DND.
    • Loadable Card Coupons-  Cellfire.com, Shortcuts.com and Smith's website itself have coupons you can load onto your Fresh Value Card.  I haven't seen any other stores that have these "loadable" coupons.  When you load the coupons to your card online it will automatically deduct at checkout.  My personal opinion is -  I don't find these coupons to be reliable.  There has been a few times when  I have loaded a coupon onto my card but then I don't see the deduction on my receipt.  You used to be able to stack a loadable coupon and a paper manufacturer coupon for an item.  I have found out they don't do that anymore.  To make it simple I just avoid using loadable coupons.
    • B1G1 – Buy one get one free
    • B2G1 – Buy two get one free
    • DNT – Do not triple coupon value
    • OYNO – “On Your Next Order” meaning when a coupon prints, you can use it on your next trip
